Zorro & Shep – Mae Rim Rescue
On any given day the staff from Care for Dogs is on the road to investigate cases of neglect, animal cruelty or other dire circumstances.
This past month Hand to Paw Outreach requested CFD staff to visit Mae Rim district. It had recently come to their attention that a make-shift shelter was put together by an animal loving Thai, Khun Kai, a pet store owner in Mae Rim.
Khun Kai inadvertently was left with the responsibility of 20+ dogs when the foreign owner departed abruptly from Thailand leaving the dogs unattended with no means of support. Khun Kai was able to relocate some of the dogs to new homes.
Although Khun Kai’s intentions are heartfelt and generous, the Care for Dogs staff soon saw the make-shift living quarters for the remaining 16 dogs was far from adequate.
The shelter currently has no running water, dusty, insufficient funds, and no medical care. Currently most dogs appear healthy accept for 3 major cases of skin afflictions.
With the help of Hand to Paw both 3-legged dogs, Shep & Zorro, were taken to the vet and on to Care for Dogs for treatment of mange and fungus. They will be re-homed back to their own shelter in Mae Rim after their recovery.
In the near future, Hand to Paw Outreach students hope to assist Khun Kai with re-supplying of fresh water, cleaning of water and food bowls and basic health care.
