Wat Pha Gee - Mae Hia - Chiang Mai
This set of photos from Wat Pha Gee were taken in November 2007.
Care for Dogs first came here in the summer of 2007 to find the place just crawling with ticks. Specifically, 3 pups born to the brown short haired mother, all completely covered in ticks, in every crevice & orifice, literally hundreds in their ears. Karin, Amandine & I meticulously de-ticked all the dogs with spray & patient tweezer removal from stubborn areas. I have been back at regular intervals with food and the story is always the same, ticks, ticks & ticks.
During a visit in September I found only Tdik to be living from the infested 3 pups.
Sadly, 6 more pups have in the meantime been dumped and on each visit I see their slow decline due to poor health. The tick problem here is killing the smaller weaker individuals. On this particular visit when these photos were taken, Tdik who is in the background of the standing monk pic, is still hanging in there but totally emaciated and a pair of new short legged, long haired pups are doing ok. There is also just one of another litter that were dumped in October, still alive. These pics were taken on 5 November 2007. The day after, the little short haired fella with a bloated tummy, looking straight at the camera sat on the steps, died, laying in his own poo and vomit.
