Transmissible Venereal Tumor – Progress
Today at the Care for Dogs shelter near Hang Dong, 13 dogs were seen by Dr Tarn and her team treating their Transmissible Venereal Tumor conditions.
11 of the dogs are living-in and one is a visitor from a nearby village, who trots along next to his companion who rides her Honda Wave to the shelter every week and 1 new case arrived this morning for an estimated 2 month stay at the shelter for his course of treatment.
It’s a long process for some of them but the results are worth the wait. Their conditions can be quite severe and today we started a new case who according to his ‘owner’, (not a word I usually like to use but is relevant at this point) White has been suffering from this condition for at least 2 years.
So as you might be able to imagine, the condition is advanced, the poor dog is suffering in all sorts of ways and the only hope they have is either a long slow death through complications of the condition (wasting from inability to eat, infections, spread of the tumors to vital organs etc) or a course of Chemotherapy that is 100% guaranteed to kill the tumor cells.
Here are a few pics of White arriving at the shelter and meeting up with Tao Tao who just a month ago looked very similar to White with tumors in his head, nose & mouth. And just to balance things a little, some other faces of the TvT Clinic patients.
You can read about some of the TvT cases we deal here …
**WARNING** However, if you are seriously interested in this subject and have a strong stomach and are not easily offended by the sight of raw flesh, you can see some examples of this horrific condition here …
