Vern Nowland : Fundraising Co-ordinator

Vern with HenryWhilst visiting Chiang Mai in early February 2009, I was lucky enough to discover Care for Dogs just by a chance “tear off flyer” on the wall of my gym.

Like many other people, I have always wanted to give something back to my world. For many of us, it’s almost a duty or a prerequisite to life that we are compelled to do something worthwhile and valuable. Care for Dogs gives me that opportunity.

In the beginning, I was drawn to the shelter by the overwhelming sense of being needed by the dogs. On every arrival, you could guarantee that the shower that you just had and that fresh T Shirt you selected today, was going to last about 5 minutes. How delicious!

Many things that happen at the shelter just allow you to have that private smile every time that you think of the place! However, there is the serious side of the project which unfortunately does not evoke any happy emotion. Dogs at the shelter are in need of many things. Medical procedures and operations, food, medicines, vaccines and treatments, to name a few. The costs for these daily necessities are enormous and since Care for Dogs is a nonprofit organization/ foundation, it relies on funds and donations to continue its humanitarian work.

My “job” is as Fundraising Coordinator / Volunteer and involves talking to potential sponsors, companies and benefactors, with the aim of securing commitments of assistance to further the aims of Care for Dogs in its pledge to improve the lives of dogs in Thailand.

I love doing this work and my greatest reward is to see those dogs happy and healthy, in part, because of my efforts to give them the things that they need.

Power on you Doggies!
