Emma Boelen

Emma lives in Europe and is a great help for us in Chiang Mai, in respect of her artistic talent with posters and graphic designs for all occasions.

This is what she says about her love for helping Care for Dogs.

n1516370017_30271495_1618353There’s one main reason why I decided to do volunteer work with animals:

Because I love animals!

Why it became Care for dogs was a great result of coincidences that happened during my journey through South-East Asia.

The journey started in India, where the conditions animals lived in where horrific, but so were the conditions for the people living in… so you couldn’t really tell them to take care of animals. Not if they themselves had difficulties surviving.

One day I met a little pup on the street which started following me and cuddled and played with me.

The locals found it a bit strange that I was touching a filthy street dog and decided they should save me from it, by kicking it away from me… I didn’t stop crying for days about the little pup.

Till this day I still wish I could have taken her with me.

About the same time I met a friend who told me about the even worse conditions street dogs (soi dogs) and street cats in Thailand lived in. After her stories I decided to not do volunteer work with elephants, but with dogs ( the fact that they happen to be my favourite type of animals on the whole wide planet was just a nice plus side!)

We had just arrived in Thailand and already got to meet the horrible lifestyle the street animals had to survive in… Actually I doubt if the dog, we saw being picked up of the road and thrown on the side, survived being hit by a car and not been taken care of…

In Chiang Mai I got in touch with Karin from Care for Dogs and she told us we could come by anytime we wanted. So we did as soon as we could and it turned out to be one of the nicest days during our stay in Thailand!

4467_102553413297_603403297_2587516_4180845_nThere are so many dogs in CFD and they all want to cuddle and play with you. It is almost as if they realize which horrific lifestyle they have been saved from and all they want to do is wag their tail and thank you for caring for them. We ended up going back to Care for Dogs for the last week of our journey and had a wonderful week!

I’m so happy the path of life put my boyfriend and me at Care for dogs that Monday, because it lead us to adopting a lovely puppy.

In only three weeks Dharma will arrive in Belgium and we are looking forward to her joining our family.

I can suggest anyone who cares about animals and who is in Thailand to go and have a look at Care for Dogs.

Meet the dogs and get to know their characters, you’ll see that it’s a lifelong lasting experience!

They’ll make you laugh and cry at the same time and you’ll want to take them all home with you!
