Hands on Volunteers
|
To be able to save as many dogs as possible from these situations and give them a better life full of the love, care and compassion that they deserve fills me with a strong feeling of contentment. To see puppies with little hope go from starvation & weakness to full of life and dogs that shivered in fear at any sudden movement suddenly so affectionate after we rescue them or distemper cases with little or no hope make a full recovery, makes all our hard work at Care for Dogs so worthwhile. |

I have always been drawn to Thailand and after hearing about Care for Dogs from a past volunteer in Byron Bay, Australia, Chiang Mai seemed the obvious next stop. To simply be able to do service to these wonderful friends alongside pursuing my singing here in CM is a dream come true! My mantra when I see someone I can help has got to be: ‘Saving one dog won’t change the world but surely, the world will change for that one dog’, thankfully they are saving my life too – the joy they bring me is immense. |

Gentle in nature, forever in need of love, and living at the mercy of the people and surroundings around them have endeared me to the plight of the street dog. For once in my life I finally found a passion that felt reciprocal in its rewards, its pains and its fight. When I see a street dog alone, bleeding and emancipated in the middle of a bustling crowd not hated, not loved, not seen, but treated with indifference, this is what I can no longer turn away from. |

I visited the centre regularly cuddling, grooming and playing with the lovely creatures. They loved the attention and in some cases it was wonderful to see the transformation from frightened dogs into happy animals, always ready with a wag and a friendly nuzzle. I recommend anyone who loves animals to visit the centre, I know I definitely will next time I am in Chiang Mai. |

There are so many dogs in CFD and they all want to cuddle and play with you. It is almost as if they realize which horrific lifestyle they have been saved from and all they want to do is wag their tail and thank you for caring for them. |

I was sad to see that people in the north of the country don’t appear to treat their dogs and cats any better than their counterparts in the south. Poisoning happens here too, and I’ve had to make emergency runs to vets with animals that have been run over and some of these from temples, where despite being busy with people, many just ‘turn a blind eye’ to their suffering. As long as I can occasionally take distance from it all and do other things with my life, I’m glad to be able to offer some help. I certainly couldn’t live with myself if I did nothing |

Volunteering with Care for Dogs makes me very happy and I feel that major forces have been at work for many years, angling for me to be here, to do this and make a difference to the dogs around Chiang Mai. |

Often I can help, but also often I need help and I’m grateful that I can count on the help of Care for Dogs. |

As I passed Chiang Mai I discovered the organisation “Care for Dogs” where I did some volunteering for a couple of days. This work fulfilled me very much and I didn’t want to leave the shelter with all these adorable dogs! I missed working for animal welfare, so I decided to help Care for Dogs, from outside of Thailand. I’m now responsible for the volunteer contact by E-Mail. I love being a member of this team. |

Dogs have always been a huge part of my life since a child as we were never without at least one furry friend.Thailand has been no different in that I’ve had the great pleasure of having dogs here from the first moment I arrived. What brought me to CfD was losing my lovely Rottweiler, |

What I love about dogs is their sincerity; their genuine attitude towards life. They are what they are at their purest, with their good qualities and their flaws. You can really build an amazing companionship with a dog. When giving even just a little to these wonderful beings, you will receive back what you give ten times over!. |
