TvT – Its growing

By • Oct 17th, 2009 • Category: TvT

Care for Dogs has been treating TvT cases for over 3 years. On average we have 10 cases living in our TvT enclosure for their course of treatment, weekly injections with Vincristine administered by a trained veterinarian.

The cost of this treatment is very expensive and although we manage to reduce costs by purchasing bulk supplies of this powerful medicine, the overall cost of treating so many dogs with this condition greatly impacts on our budget but the value is justified, these dogs would otherwise continue to spread their contaminated blood and eventually die through loss of blood, infection and being consumed by an extremely invasive tissue destroying tumor.

The purpose of this article is to raise readers awareness of some of the work that Care for Dogs is involved in, apart from Sterilisation, Adoption and caring for sick or wounded dogs at the shelter in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai Thailand.
Dogs that suffer with this awful condition pass it on to one another very easily. Either via intercourse or contact with the blood, a dog can easily contract it and pass it on to all those that are in their vicinity.

Today at the rescue centre, I took a few photo’s of Tim, to show the marvelous improvements his Vincristine treatment is having on his nose and the internal TvT. The tumor within is now well under control and receding, therefore his face looks less swollen. But more importantly, he is able to breath through his [...]
