More Beer on holiday !

By • Jan 26th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

Last but by no means least, little Jo Jo made it onto the table and let the vet take a look at her plaster cast. She had been found wandering helplessly and in obvious pain at a temple in Chiang Mai and then rushed to a local vet for treatment. But that’s all we know. How she sustained the fractured leg, how long she had limped around with no help, we will never know.

Blinking limping dogs

By • Jan 22nd, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

A word of caution about this vet trip report, it will make your eyes water, your toes curl and ends sadly, with a veterinarian assistant going to hospital. Buki is a dear little girl who is currently just hanging out at the shelter waiting for a home. Recently, she has been limping on her back [...]

A very smelly vet trip

By • Jan 13th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

The first sign of trouble came about 10 minutes into the journey. There was some moaning in the back seat that turned into a cry and then a yelp. I stopped the car and looked what was going on. I saw 3 pairs of eyes blinking at me and look on their faces as if to say “it wasn’t me”.

At the next traffic light intersection I stopped again after some more crying and this time I started to get a wiff of a smell I had experienced earlier at the shelter when looking at some of the dogs.

David, the poo guy, was first to be seen by the vet and she respectfully suggested that we stop the diuretic. I agreed.

Time and Inclination

By • Oct 27th, 2008 • Category: Vet Trips

3 hours of time, ability to drive 25 kilometres and a sense of humour. That’s all you need to do a vet run. Well almost. It’s a bonus if you know how to approach a dog, talk to them, pick them up and understand their needs. But most of all you must have the inclination [...]

It’s Monday – It must be a vet run!

By • Oct 6th, 2008 • Category: Sterilisation, Vet Trips

First of all a slight apology to readers about this weekly synopsis of my Monday vet run, my ‘Hands-on’ contribution to Care for Dogs, because it might be getting slightly boring, with the same names, same faces and same stories appearing each Monday. Some of the other volunteers do write and are capably telling their [...]

By • Aug 19th, 2008 • Category: Sterilisation, Vet Trips

Blood Today Tim came along for a blood test and the results demonstrated a vast improvement from other tests done daily this last week. TvT is a terrible disease but it can be cured if treated properly and if the dog remains healthy. Vincristine, the medication used to combat the tumor, hurts the liver and [...]

Update on Tim’s nose tumor

By • Aug 4th, 2008 • Category: Shelter

Today at the rescue centre, I took a few photo’s of Tim, to show the marvelous improvements his Vincristine treatment is having on his nose and the internal TvT. The tumor within is now well under control and receding, therefore his face looks less swollen. But more importantly, he is able to breath through his [...]

Can you help to sponsor Tims tumor treatment?

By • Aug 1st, 2008 • Category: Already found a home

He’s a lovely normal Thai dog, who had a perfectly normal nose, until he developed a TvT tumor (Transmissible Venereal Tumor) about 2 years ago. His original Thai name is “Tingk” which means “Dumped”. He [...]
