By Ally • Dec 17th, 2009 • Category: TvT

We see so may dogs suffering with this condition and feel we need to discuss it more and let people know how important it is to treat.
For nearly 3 years now, Care for Dogs has routinely treated approximately 10 dogs on a weekly basis for Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TvT).
Dogs don’t catch this at the shelter. [...]

Wednesday photos

Time really flies when you are enjoying yourself & last weeks ‘Just another day’ post seems like yesterday.
Today the chaos of the morning kicked off with Go, the guy who could Pee through his willy again, pulling out his catheter and needing to return to the vet. As the preparations continued for Dr Tarn’s visit, [...]

Just another day at the shelter

By Ally • Sep 26th, 2009 • Category: Shelter

Wednesdays are always busy at the shelter and today was no exception. We have a schedule to keep to, as this is when we have a vet on site to help us treat all our TvT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor) cases and also check out any other cases of ill health that we need assistance in [...]

Driving Miss Daisy

By Joy • Aug 5th, 2009 • Category: Wat Nong Pla Mon

Almost 6 months since I came upon Daisy lying listless, emaciated, anemic, bleeding from her nose and vagina from a TvT tumor in front of Wat Nong Pla Mun the day has finally arrived for me to chauffer Miss Daisy back home to the temple.
Unused to finding a dog in such a dire state and [...]

It’s Monday! – Vet Trip Day

By Ally • Jun 23rd, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

Star, the sweet & innocent, unfortunate girl who was severely beaten at a temple where her mum died last week after being shot 3 times, joined me today in the cab of the truck on the vet run.
In the back were Perry, Muli, Wawee, Jenny, Kai Dao & Maggie.
The journey was fairly uneventful except to [...]

Freedom and Cosmetic Surgery

By Ally • May 31st, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

The vet trip today was a fairly boring affair, so that’ s the reason for the title.
In the truck cab with me today was Freedom the big Alsatian we rescued from the desperate situation in San Sai just 6 weeks ago, a terrible story you can read about here … Note the difference in Freedoms [...]

Kazim

By Ally • May 14th, 2009 • Category: Already found a home

Kazim is another one of those dogs that some folks pass in the street and think how on earth they got there and in fact wonder how on earth are they still walking and breathing.
Kazim was found wandering with a variety of fleshy, bleeding tumors, in his eye, nose, back & his penis. A record [...]

By Ally • May 5th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

There is no good news in this post, it’s all doom, gloom & disaster and if you need cheering up, click your browser ‘Back’ button now and avoid any further anxiety that is sure to arise from reading the [...]

Doi Saket misery update & a new TvT case

By Ally • Mar 27th, 2009 • Category: Lead Stories

Karin, Soraya & I went on a road trip today, returning to Doi Saket and the awful caged dogs and the man who we are trying to encourage to change his ways and on the way we called into a government office, the local livestock department.
Recently, a Thai Government officer working in Bangkok, visited the [...]

Prisoner in Doi Saket is Free

By Ally • Mar 13th, 2009 • Category: Lead Stories

Last week we were called to see 3 dogs being kept in cages that were not just small & filthy but inhumane and in any other country, would immediately activate a legal case against the keeper on grounds of cruelty to the dogs.
But laws in Thailand do not prohibit such practices and only through committed [...]

Transmissible Veneral Tumor update

By Ally • Mar 12th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

Today we took along 10 dogs for their Chemotherapy injections at Dr Tarn’s Hang Dong Road clinic.
Thankfully this vet is very flexible and rather than making us drive back and forth with 2 car loads of patients, like we did last week, she kindly agreed to see them at her clinic nearer to the shelter.
The [...]

Transmissible Venereal Tumor

By Ally • Mar 5th, 2009 • Category: TvT

The purpose of this article is to raise readers awareness of some of the work that Care for Dogs is involved in, apart from Sterilisation, Adoption and caring for sick or wounded dogs at the shelter in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai Thailand.
Dogs that suffer with this awful condition pass it on to one another very easily. Either via intercourse or contact with the blood, a dog can easily contract it and pass it on to all those that are in their vicinity.

More Beer on holiday !

By Ally • Jan 26th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

Last but by no means least, little Jo Jo made it onto the table and let the vet take a look at her plaster cast. She had been found wandering helplessly and in obvious pain at a temple in Chiang Mai and then rushed to a local vet for treatment. But that’s all we know. How she sustained the fractured leg, how long she had limped around with no help, we will never know.
