A very smelly vet trip

By Ally • Jan 13th, 2009 • Category: Vet Trips

The first sign of trouble came about 10 minutes into the journey. There was some moaning in the back seat that turned into a cry and then a yelp. I stopped the car and looked what was going on. I saw 3 pairs of eyes blinking at me and look on their faces as if to say “it wasn’t me”.

At the next traffic light intersection I stopped again after some more crying and this time I started to get a wiff of a smell I had experienced earlier at the shelter when looking at some of the dogs.

David, the poo guy, was first to be seen by the vet and she respectfully suggested that we stop the diuretic. I agreed.

Vet Trip

Having been away for a week, today I returned to my routine and volunteered my time to Care for Dogs as the driver of dogs to see the vet.
In the front with me was Morg, by his appearance it would seem he is an old boy and possibly of Ban Kaow breeding.
In the back were [...]

Toyota Vios – road test – A dogs perspective

By Ally • Oct 20th, 2008 • Category: Vet Trips

It’s different. Now it’s not just the smell. It’s not the residue of something that was sticky but now dry on the brake handle or on the steering wheel, let alone the snudges (nose smudges) on the windows (every window) it’s the overall experience of a family outing. The togetherness, the ‘we’ factor, “excuse me can you move your head, mind the mirror, not you Sweetie, you Orio..! Thank you, I’ll take that…”

Monday Vet Trip – No blood today!

By Ally • Sep 15th, 2008 • Category: Vet Trips

Monday morning’s as I drive to the shelter I often wonder what the list of cases will be that day.
As I arrive, Sarah typically gives me a hand written note, as if I was going to the shops for some groceries and begins to talk me through the list, telling me some more back ground [...]

Blood
Today Tim came along for a blood test and the results demonstrated a vast improvement from other tests done daily this last week.
TvT is a terrible disease but it can be cured if treated properly and if the dog remains healthy. Vincristine, the medication used to combat the tumor, hurts the liver and kidneys and [...]

Licorice’s bloodwork

By Amandine • Aug 12th, 2008 • Category: Already found a home

I’m really scared. Although Licorice’s mange had dramatically improved, the stress of the flight had caused her to start loosing some hair again. I therefore opted to put her back on Ivermectin but with no real improvement this time around. Since Licorice’s mange hasn’t gotten much better there was a concern in my mind that [...]

Vet Trips – Tik

By Ally • Aug 11th, 2008 • Category: Vet Trips

It’s a Monday so it’s Vet Clinic day. That means, blood checks, eyes, ears noses, wound assessments or other clinical check cases. Sterilisation operations or TvT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor) treatment days happen later in the week but today a variety of bloodchecks and wound checks are needed for 7 dogs.
First up was Tik. This old [...]
