Sophie Tan enjoyed her stay at Care for Dogs

Recently Care for Dogs were very pleased to welcome Sophie who came to Chiang Mai from Singapore, specifically to volunteer at the shelter.

She saw the website, read all the info and stories and felt compelled to come an help out for a while.

Sophie got in touch, accommodation in the village near to the shelter was arranged and she came to the shelter every day during her stay. Marvelous!

This is what she wrote to us after her stay:

Sophie, Teresa & SorayaHappy New Year!, I’m back in Singapore, back to the hot weather and work!

I really missed the days I spent with the dogs, time seemed to pass so quickly and everyday there is something to look forward to.

After seeing the dogs at the shelter and looking at my own, I wish I can tell my dog and cats how fortunate they are. They have someone to give TLC everyday, whereas the dogs at the shelter are forever looking forward to someone visiting them and showering them with some love and cuddles.

I still remember Oreo sitting right next to me, leaning against me when I was indoor sorting out the collars and leashes. I can’t wait to go back to see them again.

How are the puppies? Are they growing up strong and healthy? They looked so young and vulnerable without their mothers. I can’t imagine how they will end up if you guys haven’t brought them back. I really wasn’t expecting to see so many young puppies when I decided to volunteer at the shelter.

Maybe it’s also one of those rare experience for the shelter? I wish I can go back to help out for the adoption drive, it would be nice to see them go to their very own homes. But my part-time classes are starting next weeks so I can’t go away.

I’ve looked up regarding import of pets to SG from Thailand. The dog needs to be at least 12 weeks old, with 2nd vaccination against Canine Distemper, Canine Hepatitis and Canine Parvoviral 2 weeks before export. A veterinary health check not more than 7 days prior to export, treated for external (2~10 days) and internal parasites (1~4 days) before export and to be microchipped as well. Anti-rabies vaccine will be given upon arrival (irrespective of whether it had been vaccinated or not before import). Followed by a quarantine period of not less than 30 days.

Now I don’t know if I should be importing little Coconut. He has to undergo all those vaccine and microchipped at such a young age. Moreover the quarantine place has a very short visiting hours such that I can only visit once a week on Sat. He is so used to having friends, I hate to let him be alone for more than 80% of the time in a strange environment. It won’t be healthy for him.

Regards,
Sophia
