Rachel Spencer - The Rocket Diaries
Never have I known a dog with so apt a name, the life of any puppy party. A pocket sized parcel of mischief!
When we first arrived at Care For Dogs 5 weeks ago, Rocket and her siblings were a mere 5 weeks old, yet already you could spot the live wire in the bunch.
Every toy thrown was not only caught, but brought back in a miniature game of fetch. Since those first days, Rocket has brought me innumerable presents, usually leaves, sometimes stones, but today she brought me a flower!
Rocket’s intelligence knows no bounds. After a wash from Lisa, she would come straight to me with the towel for a dry off, loving the individual attention.
2 weeks after we arrived at Care For Dogs, a new set of puppies arrived.
By this time most of Rocket’s siblings had already been adopted and she longed for some new playmates – so much so that she would wake the sleeping pups by chewing on their ears!!
By far my favourite Care For Dogs memory of Rocket is when I watched her think about what she wanted to do.
She looked down from the bench at a sleeping Noni, walked off and came back with a pebble. She lent over the side of the bench and dropped the pebble on Noni’s head, waking her up. I thought I might have imagined it , but i’m sure I heard a Rocket sized snigger…..
