Party Party Party – Thank you everyone for coming
Chiang Mai in June can be hot & wet. Sunday 7th June was just that but people who wanted to share the celebration of our 3rd successful year were committed enough to brave the weather.
After a blessing by the Abbot from the neighbouring temple, the food preparation got underway and the dressed & blessed shelter was ready for visitors.
It was great to see familiar faces of people who had previously adopted dogs, people who have in some way been involved in helping the organisation and others that were just a little bit interested in finding out what Care for Dogs actually do.
Glen Croston boosted everyone’s spirits, when he arrived with some helpers and a truck full of children from Croston House Children’s Home – Lamphun.
People sat & chatted about their dogs, the life around their family & dogs and about the work of Care for Dogs.
Children had great fun with colouring pictures facilitated by Soraya and participating in the games laid on for them too. Vern was rotating his ‘chocolate’ wheel of fortune and seemed to be taking more money compared to giving prizes away.
Teresa, Kathrin & a team of people were doing their utmost to encourage sales of Care for Dogs branded T-shirts, bags and various other items on the sales stand.
There were even a family there who didn’t know anything about Care for Dogs, came along because it was advertised as ‘Free Food’ and actually left without learning anything about dog health care or other aspects of the organisation. But I guess there are just some folks who who have their own agendas. Sad thing is, their ‘Pedigree’ dog they said was ok, “had all it’s shots and was alright”. Oh well.
In amongst all of this were some serious people wanting to take dogs away with them, not just for walks around the orchard but home !! Yes, we had adoptions going on during the shelter tours and listening to & watching the music & dance. And what a terrific band they were. Visit their website www.hitmanjazz.com – Thanks guys.
All week, Kh Grib & her team have been working flat out with preparations, new coats of paint, rebuilding fences, filling in ‘dog holes’ and even finding time to hang some attractive flowering plants from the awnings of the shelter roof.
The dogs were spruced up with fluffy coats and also some wonderful “Adopt me” Care for Dogs fluorescent jackets – these dogs wanted to attract the crowd!
Despite the showers of rain, after all this is Chiang Mai in June (Note to Karin… Can we move the anniversary for next year??), the people who came to the party wanted to enter the shelter and meet the dogs close up. Amazingly, the residents were on their best behaviors and only muddied one or two ‘clean on today Sunday best outfits’.
The food was delicious and plentiful, thanks to the efforts of the village team who also provided the tents, chairs & tables for the event.
By the end of the day, 6 dogs & puppies had been adopted but sadly no cat’s, despite Gills desperate attempts to find so many young kittens a new home and the prize draw, for which people attending had entered into competition by completing a questionnaire, resulted in John winning the first prize, dinner for 2 at the Amari Rincome.
Another party goer, capturing the day, was Carol of Wallpaper By Design who is a local resident and has supported Care for Dogs for quite a while. Visit her record of the day here …
Just a few pics of the event.
