Noi Nna’s Follow up Rescue
When I first met Noi Nna at the shelter, I knew that I would love her, but I didn’t know how much at that point. Every time I came to the shelter, Noi Nna was at my side, following me everywhere I went, seeming to be very interested in the things I were doing.
At some point, someone was interested in adopting Noi Nna together with two other dogs from the shelter. I should have felt happy for her, that she finally found a home but I was so sad that I wouldn’t see her anymore that I had to cry a lot and I also could not be at the shelter when she was picked up.
The following days in the shelter were very sad for me because I missed having Noi Nna at my side, watching me and following me around. When I couldn’t bare it anymore I decided to do an adoption follow up visit to see how she was. So together with Soraya from the shelter team, I went to see how the dogs were doing.
When Soraya and I arrived at the place where the dogs were living, we only saw the other two dogs, but not Noi Nna. My heart was beating so strong and I was so scared that something had happened to my Noi Nna. The supposed owner then told us that Noi Nna did not like to stay with her and that she ‘moved in’ with the neighbours.
When we saw, where exactly Noi Nna was forced to move in, I again had to cry and cry. She has been living in a small cage for 7 days. Now it seemed Noi Nna, who was always a very open and friendly dog, was so scared, even of me. We rescued her & returned her to the shelter.
The following day, back at the shelter, I took Noi Nna for a long walk, I fed her and I bathed her and as dogs fortunately are, she recovered very soon from her bad experience. And in the old habit followed me everywhere, seeming to be even more excited about having me around, than before.
Now, after staying in Chiang Mai for 2 months I will have to leave for Berlin, and I will have to leave Noi Nna behind, which really breaks my heart but hopefully not hers! I wanted to take her with me so badly, but my living- and financial situation in Berlin does not allow me to adopt Noi Nna at the moment, since I am only living in a flat in the city with no garden and two other dogs (Maja & Josha), of which one (Josha, my first and everlasting love) has to get special treatment for her Spondylosis, which is very expensive.
Although the Care for Dogs team is doing adoption interviews & contracts with adopters and no dog is knowingly given to people who will lock them in cages or chained up, it can happen that some people don’t stick to their word or contract and sometimes they even give the dog away!
Care for Dogs is doing follow-up visits already but with over 200 adoptions per year, the capacity of the few resources is not enough to enable visits to all adopted dogs and therefore I want to find someone who can do the adoption follow up visits once a week, since they are so crucial, as you might understand now.
So please, anybody who is interested in helping the shelter team, whose team members are very, very busy with lots of equally important work regarding the well being of the dogs, please don’t hesitate to contact them and offer your help for 3-4 hours (one evening) per week. In doing the adoption follow up visits, you would fulfill a very important part in the care for dogs’ team work for the dogs!
And as you can see from other posts in this category not every follow up end in such a dramatic way. There are other moments where you can enjoy a happy dog in it’s new home. Providing you with some balance to sader aspects of this task, but even then there is something positive, you can help a dog in need.
