In Memory Donations - A Tribute to Zorro

Zorro had a special spirit and zest for life. Those of us that knew this 3 legged, unusual looking soul, loved him and those of us who didn't were always a little bit wary of him. He was known for his sometimes cheeky behaviour.

Zorro came to Care for Dogs more than 3 years ago, victim of being abandoned (along with 20 other dogs!) by his previous owner who left the country. He was already 3 legged, hairless and scared. Slowly, he gained trust and became one of the favourite dogs of the staff and volunteers. Zorro's chronic skin condition was a challenge for vets, but with various treatment plans, there was improvement.

In 2012, Zorro stole the heart of Amy, who living in British Columbia, Canada, saw a picture of him by prize winning photographer Ken Miner. It was love at first sight. Amy contacted us wanting to provide Zorro with that wonderful home he had dreamed of. We were so happy that finally Zorro was going to become a part of a loving family. In early 2013, after many, many treatments, Zorro was finally mange free and arrangements started for his travels abroad.

On 2 April, 2013, all of our hopes and dreams for Zorro living the life he so deserved, came crashing down when he had to undergo emergency surgery for a twisted stomach. Zorro died on the operating table. We were at a loss for words.

We miss him terribly with his silly little grin and antics. We can take some comfort knowing that while Zorro was at Care for Dogs, his life was full of love, tummy rubs and special treats.
