Mae Rim Pet Shop Rescue

We were recently made aware by one of our volunteers of a very difficult scenario evolving in Mae Rim.

In March 2007 Care for Dogs visited a small plot of land in Mae Rim where a guy had relocated 30 dogs from his previous home in Phuket. He was setting up a home for the dogs on the land and even had someone living there to care for the dogs. The land was very dry, dusty & a sad and desperate looking place.

Just recently though, the situation changed whereby a local pet shop owner was asked to rescue these dogs as they were no longer being cared for. Amazingly she found homes for some of them, working miracles to relocate them to various locations including her home & shop and then finding another piece of land to house the remainder.

DSCN1802After volunteer Joy had put us in touch with the pet shop, we visited her and the small enclosure she had established for the many dogs she feared would possibly have to live there for the rest of their lives. Some had legs missing, some were suffering skin problems and a couple of them were extremely shy and skittish.

The environment looked just the same as the place we visited in 2007, dry, dusty and very sad. But the dogs get fed twice a day by staff of the pet shop and have a place to sleep.

Karin, Amandine & I went along to grasp the enormity of the issue and capture some images for use here on our website to hopefully improve the chances of finding some of them homes or even giving the pet shop owner some support with her rescue.

If you believe you could help these dogs in any way either by adoption of direct support with the pet shop in Mae Rim, please get in touch with us right away and maybe we can make their lives a little easier.

Below are a couple of images and there will shortly be more.

" Volunteering with Care for Dogs makes me very happy and I feel that major forces have been at work for many years, angling for me to be here, to do this and make a difference to the dogs around Chiang Mai.[More]"

  1. i love to visit pet shops because i love to see cute little puppies-’,

  2. In this special case you may visit pet shop as the owner shows her heart and compassion to lesser fortunate doggies, too and it’s not just business.
    But pet shops selling puppies should be looked as critical as these little creatures come from commercial breeders with unknown back ground.

    So your first choice should be a look to the shelter and I’m sure you find a lot cute puppies.

  3. i would usually visit pet shops because my dog and cats can eat so much pet food in one day “:;
