The main responsibilities include:

  • Organizing and taking part in medical care, vaccinations etc. at the shelter
  • Organizing vet trips for medical checks and sterilizations
  • Responsible for purchase of food, medicine, and shelter supplies
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Adoption appointments
  • Shelter introduction to visitors
  • Updating of medical records and shelter list
  • Organizing school visits
  • Responsible for 3 shelter staff

People from different professional backgrounds can be considered for this position, but the following requirements should be fulfilled:

  • Organization skills
  • People-, communication- and motivation skills
  • Fluent in English and Thai
  • “Hands on” personality
  • Must love dogs
  • Medical experience with animals an advantage

The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for the organization of a smooth shelter operation including sterilisations, health care, adoptions, staff, volunteers, and finances within the agreed targets.

Areas of responsibility

Medical care
  • Supervise medical care
    • Tablet and liquid medicine
    • Medication for eyes and ears
    • Mange treatment (Ivermectin)
    • Wound dressings
    • After care of operation wounds
    • Special bathing (skin problems)
    • Checking recovery of sick or injured dogs
  • Decide / arrange dogs for vet run
  • Prepare all medicine and delegate to staff
  • Prepare dogs for sterilization before and on operation day
  • Arrange stitch removal for operated and sterilised dogs
  • Attend to local villagers who bring in sick or injured pets
  • Maintain / update healthcare whiteboard and bathing + adoption whiteboards
  • Record, supervise / do preventative health care (Spot on, spraying, deworming, heartworm prevention, vaccinations)
  • Record / up-date medical records
Purchase
  • Maintain stock levels of medicine / preventive health care / shelter supplies
Staff
  • Oversee staff at shelter in all duties: cleaning, feeding, medications, garden, repair and renovation
  • Organizing renovation projects in cooperation with supervisor and monitoring repair projects with staff
Volunteers
  • Coordination and introduction of volunteers at the shelter
Visitors / Adoptions
  • Shelter introduction to visitors
  • Adoption appointments
  • Organize shelter + volunteers for education school group visits to shelter
General Organization
  • Responsible for keeping costs within agreed financial budget
  • Responsible for keeping dog numbers within agreed target in cooperation with supervisor
  • Decide / arrange dogs for return to original place after sterilisation or medical care in cooperation with supervisor
  • Deciding about location of dogs in shelter, i.e. in enclosures, due to medical or behaviour issues
