How to turn 11 dogs into 14

Magic has nothing to do with what we saw today.

This week, we received a call from a dog loving lady in Chiang Mai who told us that she wanted to help some dogs living near her home, as they were all looking very unhealthy and needed our assistance to hopefully improve their condition.

Today, Soraya, visiting volunteer Margo & I drove to the city near to the Riverside Restaurant & Bar, where we were told we would find 11 dogs in the garden of a house.

Straight away I recognised the spot, from a rather protracted story, some of which you can read in my former blogging life here @ allycfd.blogspot.com. This was JJ’s home and sure enough, after a few woofs and unsure sniff’s the 3 of us were welcomed into the garden.

I say ‘garden’ the plot of land upon which there is an ancient brick Chedi, some ramshackle buildings, a lot of chickens and at the last count approximately 14 dogs.

Indeed the dogs were in need of help, most of them appeared to be losing hair, some were quite bald, a couple of them had problems with eyes and some were blind & woofing because the others were!

We did a reconnaissance of the situation and after speaking with a couple of the people who lived there, we vowed to return another day with more of an action plan.

A couple of years ago, another dog loving lady (Mary) who also lives in this area, tried to help dogs at this location, indeed she helped JJ with his septic wound. Perhaps she might like to help us again with the rest of the pack? We’ll ask her.

Part of the plan would be to treat the skin, and to do this we would need to get some tests done with a vet. So we popped into see a local vet who unfortunately wasn’t much help as he could not perform skin scrapes, let alone do blood tests. Plan B might be to take a couple at a time to a vet that was more proficient and plan C might involve a visit of a proficient vet to the dog’s home and do on site tests.

Here are a few images of the dogs.

" Volunteering with Care for Dogs makes me very happy and I feel that major forces have been at work for many years, angling for me to be here, to do this and make a difference to the dogs around Chiang Mai.[More]"
