Expat Blog - You don’t fit within our policy

For the last 2 years I have been registered with a website that calls itself the “Expat Blog” and they list my earlier work with Care for Dogs in the category of Thailand, Volunteers etc.

Amazingly, today I receive an email from them to ask if I would like to update my profile and sent me a warm and welcoming email , saying :

We missed you !

You haven’t visited us for a while, we missed you!

Have you noticed that Expat-blog has undergone many changes since last June?

Blogs are now classified under new categories: photoblogs, gourmets, expat mum, serial expat … More than 20 categories are now available. Which ones suit your blog best?

Blogs can now be localized on maps. Check out who’s blogging near you!

Visit us and update your account. We are all waiting for you!

See you soon,

Olivier

So how could I resist. I visited the link, updated my profile and selected to add my new blog. This blog. The Care for Dogs blogs, the work carried out by expat volunteers and enjoyed by many expats around the world.

But I immediately received the following email from inscription@expat-blog.com

Your blog content doesn’t fit expat blog’s policy. I regret we can’t accept it in our directory.

Thanks for your interest,
Best regards

I even went to the length of putting their link in the sidebar of this site. Well that has now been removed.

Any expats reading or writing this post, please realise that despite being an expat, you might not necessarily fit with Expat Blog policy

  1. Hi Ally,

We accepted this blog in our directory a while ago: http://allycfd.blogspot.com/ because it was related to life in Thailand, and we thought it could help people to settle down in Thailand.

You are doing a really good job with carefordogs.org (I personally think it’s a good initiative), but it is not talking about life in Thailand but about dogs. This is why I couldn’t accept it in the expat blog directory.

    Thanks for your comprehension.

    Kind regards,

    Julien

  2. Dear Julien

I’m very disappointed that you decided not to accept our website in the expat blog directory because “the topic on our website are dogs.”

Yes, our activities focus on dog rescue, but our volunteers are not dogs, but humans with two legs. Most of them are expats, who work their hearts out to help homeless dogs in need. Without these volunteers our non-profit organization couldn’t exist and the fate of many dogs would be a very grim one. I’m am very thankful for every single volunteer who is dedicating time and energy to help not only us, but also other organizations, for whatever topic, dogs, children, environment, there are many causes worth to be supported. By putting our website on your forum, it could have been an eye-opener and motivation for expats to start volunteering as well. Many expats have lots of time due to retirement, occupations of their partners, or other reasons, and I think giving something to others in need can be more fulfilling than hanging around in bars or restaurants as some bored expats tend to do.

It’s therefore hard for me to understand why you decided not to put the link of a volunteer organization on your website.

    Kind regards,
    Karin Hawelka

  3. Does that make you an Exexpat? If so, are you now just a pat?

I am also very disappointed. As a compulsive Zoologica volunteer I fear I am also destined to be pat-ed, for this is why I travel and write. If volunteer work and drawing atteniton to issues is not the best of Expats and their writings, what is? I hope a category for wonderful souls is in future blog plans. There is nothing I’d rather read more about than how real Expats are making a positive contribution to their new homes.

    Sincerly,

    Nola Lee Kelsey

  4. Well lets see if I can add this ex-expat blog to the register now. Trying.
