Civilisation as we know it
For people who speak English, the following comment on a forum that to many people represents a westerners view point on Thailand. Below are the words spoken by a person who has contributed to the forum for 3 years and has their posts accepted as non offensive as it still remains visible after 24 hours.
When the street urchins hear of this this , the rat population thru out the city will come under attack. Just hope this is not another program where the rat catchers are screwed by middlemen, etc. Now that someone has started something that will help Chiang Mai’s image, hope we can get them (who ever them are) to include soi dogs in the program, the city would become a much more hygienic place.
With attitudes like this by visitors to this wonderful country (as that’ what all foreigners are), what hope do we have for improving Thai peoples attitudes towards dogs and for that matter wildlife.

Oh god, who are these people and why are they here??? Only Thai people HAVE to live in Thailand. Everyone else is free to leave.
A friend of mine pointed me to this web page as he informed me a post I made on another forum was put on here with comment. Since Chiang Mai does not seem to have a animal control police/dept the municipality?? offered a reward for the capture of rats to rid parts of the city of these vermin. My suggestion to include soi dogs in the program could be construed as consistent with animal control utilized in the western world. I doubt that my sentiments will have any affect on the ‘Thai peoples attitude’ as having lived here for neigh on 18 years the only seeming caring group in regard to stray/unclaimed dogs seem to be the various temples. There does seem to be a recent increase in foreign interest in opening shelters, adoption agencies, feeding centers, etc which is promoted via English language forums. If as noted above your aim is to improve ‘Thai attitudes’ a Thai language format may reach more of the target group. I agree with post 1, the Thai have to live here and should be responsible for the critters/wildlife. I like to promote responsible care of animals which includes feeding, prevention, treatment, and area confinement. Have a good day now..
