What’s a Volunteer to Do?

A while back Care for Dogs consolidated their random training of volunteers into a once a week event. Each Thursday morning at 10 potential volunteers may visit the shelter for an in-depth look at ways they can help on-site. This is a great training tool. It provides a chance for people to meet the dogs [...]

We Are all Abuzz!

Care for Dogs is buzzing with good projects – literally! Power saws have been humming away as our great team of guys at the shelter have been building many wonderful new habitat enrichments (that is nerdy zoologist speak for “cool housing and awesome stuff to play on”) for the dogs. The older bamboo platforms did [...]

There are cynics out there who believe that one day of volunteering cannot make a difference. Obviously they have never attended a Care for Dogs Adoption Fair. It was 10:30 when I arrived. A whirlwind of activity greeted me. In half an hour the Adoption Fair at Chiang Mai’s Airport Central Shopping Plaza would begin. [...]

Splish Splash – Water Pleasures

As every dog lover know each and every dog is a special character and they differ in various aspects of life. One aspect is their behaviour around water. Some seem to think water just makes sense in a water bowl a drink is okay but getting a shower “Brrr” it’s torture – a river, a [...]

Recent images at the shelter

When you are up to your neck in muck & bullets, there seems not to be so much time to collect so many scenes of the routines going on around you. But thankfully I have managed to capture one or two images of recent comings & goings, some happy & some quite distressing.

Negasunt Powder

I appreciate that not everyone will be able to look at these images. Firstly there is a metal chain around the dogs neck, BIG issue! Secondly there are some nasty little wriggly things and a gaping open flesh wound. The fact is that people do keep dogs on chains, in their opinion, for a good [...]
