There are other ways to volunteer than with your hands in some fur, too – all helpful and needed.
Bring your talents to CfD and there’ll be a way to contribute.
Just like Lindy who told us how she found her way:

Call me a sucker for a well-taken photo of a dog, or dogs (or a cat, for that matter) – because spending a few baht on postcards to help a good, dog-friendly cause comes easy.

I’ve also been a long-time admirer and supporter of Care for Dogs – so when I asked to help create a new postcard project to raise money for CfD, I was able to get right to work. It turns out that the CfD office computers had perfect fodder for a new postcard set – tons of wonderful pictures! Volunteers and staff, over the years, have taken outstanding shots of the CfD residents.

With help from Karin’s co-founder friend and wonderful photographer — Amandine Lecesne — there are now 13 new styles in this new postcard collection. I found a donor to “buy” the first set, so CfD gets 100 percent of the proceeds from sales.

If other people like this way to contribute, I’m happy to keep the postcards flying off the press. For this first run, we have 20 cards each in 13 styles – printed beautifully by a CfD supporter. There are plenty more photos, and lots of quotes floating around to go with them.

I’m happy to design new ones and have them printed, especially if I can pull together a few more donors so CfD doesn’t have to invest in this project. If you’d like to donate, great –and otherwise, buy a postcard on Sunday at the Adoption Fair or on Walking Street!

– Lindy Santitharangku

Some examples of her great work:

Eva Hamann, who is a longtime supporter of Care for Dogs, visited the shelter in Hang Dong in September.

With this visit, she and her husband could directly see what kind of work they have sponsored. She used this moment to present Karin personally another donation by a friend of hers, Ursual Albert from Germany.

Besides her activities for Care for Dogs, Eva is also supporting other animal rescue projects throughout Thailand and Ursula gave her donation to Eva to eagerly share it between those projects.

With the following presentation she documented the use of Ursulas donations for her, because she stayed in Germany. An with this she showed that besides growing distance the sympathy for creatures in need must not minimize.

Again, a big thank you to Eva and Ursula!

We hope that many more friends don’t judge not as much because of the distance – which is relative in times of the “global village” – but rather because of the scope of the misery.

To all our supporters and donors from all over the globe: we invite you to do it just like Eva and come to the shelter to get a personal impression of our work and support with and for the dogs in Chiang Mai. This is all just possible with your (also financial) support!

In February, Silke & Valentin visited our shelter in Hang Dong. They were on a trip around the world from Switzerland and while in Chiang Mai, they decided to take a look at Care for Dogs. It is obvious that despite it being a relative short stay of just one day, the experience left an impression.

They publish a blog on the internet sharing their fresh experiences with interested readers and here we show you what they wrote in their post about the day with Care for Dogs:

… Today we accompanied Maggie on her way to a street dog rescue station and enjoyed the day with all those dogs. We met little puppies, healthy dogs, some sick dogs and many happy and playful dogs, which enjoyed spending a day with us as much as we enjoyed spending time with them.

We cuddled, played and cuddled them again. These dogs in the shelter are living a real good life – they have big enclosures with a lot of space, and various things to play with, to take a rest and even to hide a little.

But there are some dogs in poor condition… first of all the blind ones (although they find their way quite well and are real cuddly) and some in a kind of hospital area – even in much worse condition. Most of them after surgery, but some of them on strong medication and treatment against cancer or other serious diseases. Not so nice to look at, but they too real enjoyed our human approach.

We just have to say, every dog in the shelter goes fine and can be happy to have found this place. Medical Care is very good, the big enclosure is beautiful and the dogs can live together in packs just being a dog.

Although it’s sad too – at the end of the day we left with a good feeling. The dogs get help and live a life as free, pain free and simply happy as possible.

…

best wishes

Silke & Valentin

You can read the full post in German here …

If you like these photos, you might like to see more of their photos here …

Thanks Silke & Valentin for your visit and your kind donation. Everyone at Care for Dogs and especially our animal fosterlings, are happy about every visitor showing support and giving the doggies some moments of love.

Although we try our very best for our residents and we very much appreciated that you recognized that, living in the shelter can and will always be second best to the dogs, even the happy looking ones just want to be with their family.

So when reading this, please take a moment to think about something : Can you bring a dog out of the second best to the very best by giving one (or more ) of them a place within your family? If the answer is yes, please contact us.

This was their second visit and they made a massive donation of blankets for the cold season, dog clothes and dog food.

They said they want to continue to support us and encourage their friends and former school mates to do the same.

Thank you Xavier & Noy Vichitporn, from “Xavier Flute Studio” in Chiang Mai for all you are doing to support Care for Dogs.

Following on from the visit to the shelter by a group of students from Chiang Mai International School, we received a lovely email from the Director of the school, Supaporn Yanasarn, this is what she said:

On behalf of CMIS, I also would love to thank all of you at the shelter for your love and care for our young people. I believe that they have learned a lot from what you all have been doing here with great compassion to all creature. We hope to work together more and more kha.

Thank you again and blessings,

Supaporn Yanasarn
Director
Chiang Mai International School

The schools mission statement says an awful lot and reflects why the group appeared so well balanced and sincerely interested in the purpose of their visit.
